If you are interested in running as an XAT candidate, or if you're just curious as to what it's all about, then we feel the best place to start is with the Party Constitution that follows. CONSTITUTION
This is the constitution of the www.xat.org political
party hereafter
referred to as 'the party'.
The party is dedicated to
devolve democracy
to a local and work place level, allowing everyone a say on any
issues that concerns
them, through direct electronic voting. As the party sees
Specialised Direct Democracy
making representatives redundant, candidates standing for election do
so in order
to allow the relevant population to essentially vote for themselves
to rule.
Candidates of the party elected to office have a mandate from the
population that
elected them, to dismantle the current decision making system and
replace it with
a system of Specialised Direct Democracy that does not require representatives. Once this
new voting system is in place, the elected candidate is required to
resign their
post and turn the decision making process over directly to the electorate. Candidates of the party will
stand in silence
to allow everyone a voice and the only power they may exert is to hand over the
power of decision to the population that elected them to do so. The
detailed philosophy of the party is publicly available from the web site that
shares it's name (www.xat.org). An important part of this philosophy is that
everyone is invited
to help improve it.
Upon the establishing of direct democracy
by the party
in any area, the party will offer the public the opportunity to vote
for an alternative
economic system, which comes with conditions of use that guarantee:
No
Taxes
All
Public Services Fully Funded
Real
People Power Democracy
minus Politicians
A complete system of Fair
Trade
A
Stable Economy free from Inflation & Deflation
Incentives to
produce ecological
and socially responsible goods and
services
The
details of this alternative economic system are also available from the party
web site and invites contributions to improve it.
This
expresses the aims of the party and concludes its constitution.
How to Run as an XAT Candidate
XAT Candidates are unusual in that they do not seek power from election.
To stand you must be willing to put your own special interests on
hold so that everyone's special interests can be given a chance to be
heard.
Candidates don't need to be completely silent, but if given a chance
to speak they should let people know this is a different kind of
Party campaigning to allow ideas to be shared, and if they would like
to experience some of these ideas and possibly add to them, then they
should go to the www.xat.org web-site which has been created for that
purpose.
Candidates should at every opportunity declare that they are not
seeking power and stand only to allow people the opportunity of
voting to govern themselves. They may invite people to visit the web
site for a detailed explanation of how this works.
If you think you have the character to stand in this unique way,
you'll need to raise the deposit if one is required. In the UK for
instance, this is £500. With the support of friends and neighbours this deposit could be divided between you, i.e. 100 people paying £5 each or 1000 people paying 50 pence each. In the UK you will also need to gather 10 signatures. These can be gotten easily in the same way.
It's best to raise the money well before the election is called.
Continuing with our UK example, once you raise the money, when the
election is called, you need to go to your Town Hall and ask for the
papers needed to stand. Make sure these include an authorisation to
use a Registered Party Name and LOGO. Fill this one out with your
details and send it to us immediately.
(Election, PO Box 43839, London, NW6 2HE)
Wait to receive the authorization form from Us At XAT, then send the papers in along with payment to the relevant government department.
For people in other countries, if you are having any trouble working out where you need to go to register yourself please let us know details of the area you wish to run in and we will do our best to help.
In the UK your deposit will entitle you to free delivery of cards or leaflets to
voter households in your area and so we recommend that you try and raise extra money if possible to allow you to take advantage of this. To avoid any confusion you should only use slogans and
Logos authorised by XAT. All new ideas will be considered but you
should wait for authorization before printing anything.
We suggest you
e-mail us for samples well before any election.
In these early stages, it's not so much getting votes as it is using the electoral process to spread the word. The greatest impact may well come after the voting is over.
Whatever help you need along the way please don't hesitate to contact us via the community forum or direct by email.
